Funny thing about getting older, you not only learn more about the world around you and yourself, but your senses become more acute as years turn to knowledge that turn to a heightened sense of awareness. This has happened for Moby who has used the metaphor of a hotel to describe the essence of a manmade life and the human aspect of imperfection within his latest release.

In true Moby fashion, he’s orchestrated a legion of vocal talent to take the lead on some songs, such as the lonely road remake of New Order’s “Temptation” featuring Laura Dawn along with the vibrant “Lift Me Up” with Shayna Steele on background vocals. With the exception of drums from Scott Frassetto, Moby continues to play all instruments and reins the board as producer.

That bit of the rocker in him still shines through, and the rave kid has yet to hang up his baggy pants, but it is very clear that Moby is ventured in a more contemplative state of mind. The tones are long and tapered like a melting candle, the rain melody hits like “bullets on tin,” celestial kisses run down the length of a woman’s spine, and from end to end the songs transport you down this darkened road that eventually leads you into the morning with the sun piercing through the sheerest shades.

Then for your second night’s stay there’s the second Ambient CD, perfect for watching the day go by from the 30th floor with room service coffee and the Sunday New York Times. Your mind is free to wander, imagining what life must be for all the ants crawling around on the ground below.

If you insert the CD into your computer you’ll also get a chance to check out his special online Hotel, complete with VIP lounge and other goodies.
