LOCAL MUSIC BUZZ BITES

Local entrepreneur and DJ Yossi Goodman of You Know Me opened one of the few DJ academies to exist in North America. Students learn not only the skills involved in beat matching, working the crowd, and designing the right set for the environment and vibe, but also the critical aspects of marketing and managing their career from a business perspective. Since he opened the new studio a few months back, not only has his attendance grown but he’s also been getting some rockin’ press from our local media and the Wall Street Journal. Read all about it at www.youknowme.biz.

D.O.R.K. has been added the long list of Colorado bands that were devoured by Maris the Great. This newly Undead band’s interview with the faggot of death can be read at www.maristhegreat.com/interviews2003, complete with a lovely array of graphic photos. They warn us that its pretty explicit, so you may want to wait until you’ve digested that big bowl of mac and cheese.

Local phunk rockers in Bop Skizzum are currently in their studio working on 11 new songs slated for recording in April. In the meantime, you can check out two shows they have coming up this weekend – “Walk this Way” First Friday Event, where they’ll perform with Big Crappy Robot, Fat Knuckle Jack, The High Altitude Project, Remedy for Ruin, and Wake up Jeff at the Glen Miller Ball Room in Boulder, and a Saturday show at the Ogden, “Don’t Believe the Hype,” A Protest to the War in Iraq. This is what the boys in Skizzum have to say about the musical event, ” I know we all might have our different opinions on this looming war, but even if you don’t agree with the anti-war sentiment, at least come down and educate yourself…to see what the other side has to say. This is a chance for you to make a stand and really be vocal about the war for those of you who think it’s a bad idea. Please, Please come out. We are going to have a special guest jamming out with us at this show, so don’t miss it.” Mercury Project, P-Nuckle, Bop Skizzum, UVR, Rivers Run Dry, As We Speak, Stepshort, Ik, Knee Jerk will also be performing. The show starts early, at 5pm, because of the huge line up. Bop Skizzum is expected to take the stage around 9pm.
