fox theatre assures patrons that what happened in R.i. will not happen at their venue

Eric Pirritt releases this statement on Monday, February 24, 2003:

To All Fox Theatre Patrons, Friends, and Family…

It comes with great sadness to have to write this to you all, but it helps us realize how serious we take our jobs to provide you with a safe place to see live music.

The recent events in both Chicago, IL and Warwick, RI have us on the brink of tears, and visions of our own beloved Fox Theatre being under such a panic have been inevitable. But right HERE, right NOW, we want to let everyone know that we personally, with every bit of assurance in our souls, feel that you are in the safest venue in America when you visit us at the Fox Theatre. We have precautions beyond need, it seems at times, but right now it feels nothing could ever really be enough.

First and foremost, The Fox Theatre is a stone structure, not wood, which may indeed be our greatest benefit. The Fox is also equipped with a fully working and maintained Exit Lights, Stair Lighting & Sprinkler System in case of fire. We have fire extinguishers located throughout the Fox Theatre, on stage, in the lobby, behind each bar, upstairs in our offices, as well as special electrical fire prevention units at both soundboards (HOUSE and STAGE). For your knowledge we also have two fire escapes on either side of the stage that exit into the back alley, and our lobby is “one big door” should anything go wrong. Also, in the case of an extreme emergency, double doors behind the fire retardant stage curtain would also be used to usher people out of the building.

Finally, on a bi-monthly basis, we have All Staff Safety Meetings in which everyone, regardless of how long they have worked here at The Fox, sits down and reviews safety procedures, as well as group discussions of different scenarios in which a panicking crowd could cause the problems we have seen recently in clubs across the country. We urge anyone of you to talk with our security or house manager any time you have a question or concern, and in the event of an emergency, you remain calm and follow the orders of these people that are here to protect you.

I don’t know if this is our way of getting these thoughts off our chest, a way to release some pent up negative energy, or an attempt to send out a prayer or assurance from the management at one of America’s busiest venues.

It is however the only way we feel we can let you know that the Fox Theatre takes its responsibilities to its employees, friends and family more serious than many know. WE all feed off of each other. If it wasn’t for each other, WE do not exist, WE do not enjoy this great place WE have created, WE are not who we are.

We do not for a second take anyone or anything in regards to the Fox Theatre for granted. You are all loved and we need to see you back here again. Whether it’s tomorrow, or 5 years from now, our reason for existing is to see you all again and again, smiling, dancing and enjoying everything we work so hard, day in and day out, to accomplish.

With Love
And Deepest Sympathies for Everyone affected by these recent tragedies,

Eric Pirritt

Colorado on the Roxx

This month we will see two rock clubs in Colorado stop rockin’ – the Sportsfield Roxx in Denver, and The Chief in Pueblo.

So what’s the deal? We’re not quite sure yet.

According to Brandun, Fomofuiab’s Manager, “The Chief has been losing money since they re-opened. The owner Kelvin just decided to shut it down and sell it from what I understand they are asking 200,000 for the whole club including the last beer glass.”

Fomofuiab played their final show at Sportsfield last Friday, and will be playing their last show at The Chief this Saturday, February 22 with Tripcage, Comostyle, Koyld and Spinedown.

Here’s what bassist Mike Krening has to say about their love on the Roxx last week:
We played our first show ever as a band at the Sportsfield and it has turned into a hub for us bands. It’s always been a place for people to network in the scene because you always knew there were good bands playing.

It sucks that the Sportsfield is closing its doors to metal shows; one less venue is never good. But the cycle will continue and new ones will appear and disappear.

But we personally (FOMOFUIAB) will miss the Sportsfield and the people there! Chris and Dave and all the bartenders over our short carreer have been some of our biggest supporters and Im sure a lot of other bands in town will say the same!!

For sure, the last metal show there was bad ass! Mazzard, Fomofuiab, Blister 66, and Sickbox…one hell of a lineup. All of the bands kicked ass and made sure that it left an impression, if not a scar on everyone. It was good to see the support of our fans and it was a great night.

Maris The Great showed up to do his casket giveaway. He had a casket full of local band stuff like CD’s, shirts, magazines and what not. It was pretty cool of him to put that contest on. The winner of course was our own Ty Fury, who wrote 50 colorful words on how to kill Maris with the utmost creativity.

We played our asses off that night and had as much fun as we’ve ever had there. Too bad its not going to be around anymore…but at least Jerry (of Tyfoid Mary) made it out of there with the “NO MOSHING” sign. HELL YEAH BROTHER!!

Stay tuned next week when we’ll have news of a new club opening in Colorado that plans to rock your arse…

Gamits Lose Drummer, But They’re Still Kickin’

This just in from Virgil at Suburban Home Records:

I am sure word is already traveling so I figured I should clear things
up. NO, THE GAMITS ARE NOT BREAKING UP. What has happened is that Forrest (the Gamits drummer) has decided that he no longer wants to play in the Gamits. We are really bummed because Forrest has been in the Gamits for a long time and we had to cancel their European Tour in March. As much as this really sucks, all Chris can do is keep chugging along.

Chris is working on songs that will comprise a new album and in my opinion are some of his best songs ever. When the Gamits release their next album, they will tour Europe, Japan, and all over the United States. Big things are planned for their new album.

Check the Gamits site soon as he will have more info. He will eventually be looking for new members to make up the rest of the band and when that happens, we will give you all the information. The Gamits in their current lineup will be playing 3 shows in March with Adventures of Jet. These 3 shows will be great and we recommend you attend as many of them as you can to see The Gamits with Forrest as they will not be playing together again. I will have more info as it develops.
