2nd annual festival italiano – cinema italiano
Denver Film Society, the nonprofit cultural institution dedicated to the celebration and cultivation of film as art, presents Cinema Italiano on Friday, September 23rd at 7:30 pm. Cinema Italiano is part of the weeklong city-wide Festival Italiano that celebrates Italian culture by featuring the sights, sounds and flavors of Italy. Denver Film Society supports Festival Italiano’s goal in celebrating Italy by hosting an event featuring Italian film.
Denver Film Society will provide a free public screening of an Italian film classic, Caro Diario (Dear Diary) – 1994 by director Nanni Moretti at their home theater, Starz FilmCenter at the Tivoli. Free tickets for the screening will be provided on a first come first serve basis.
Caro Diario is a very funny and quite profound “visual diary.” It unfolds in three parts. “On My Vespa” takes us on a motorbike ride around Rome with director Moretti, sharing his adventures, including a hilarious encounter with a film critic. In “Islands,” a search for peace and quiet in the magnificent Aeolian islands off Sicily runs comically into an obsession with American soap operas. “Doctors” takes off from Moretti’s real-life encounter with cancer – now cured – to skewer the medical industry.
“Nanni Moretti’s Caro Diario is a wonderful addition to this year’s Festival Italiano,” said Lindsay Mangat, Project Manager for Denver Film Society. Moretti has been called the Italian Keaton or Chaplin making him a cult figure in Italy. Caro Diario will provide film goers with a deeper understanding of Italian culture.
