Top 5 of 2005 – Gorillaz

GORILLAZ

1. Late Registration – Kanye West
Russel: ‘I think this works even better than ‘College Dropout’. It’s got a great original energy to it. His delivery’s really fresh sounding. Kanye West is hip-hop’s new maestro at the top of his game’.

Murdoc: Š.And other cliché’s

2. Get Behind Me Satan – White Stripes

Noodle: ‘I love they way they look. The attention to presentation is immaculate. They also have a great, almost Zen-like ability to create perfectly simplistic yet effective three minute songs like ‘Blue Orchid’ and ‘My Doorbell”

Murdoc: And when it comes to minimalism, their drummer’s really pushing the boundaries, eh?

3. Kaiser Chiefs -Employment
2D: ‘This lot have had a crazy year and this album is probably why. There’s been a whole load of Blur comparisons but ‘I Predict a Riot’, ‘The Modern Way’ and ‘Oh My God I Can’t Believe It’ are just fantastic tunes. Although I think they dress a bit weird’

4. Arular- M.I.A.

Russel: ‘I don’t know what it is, she’s just got a good fresh vibe to her. She’s mixing a lot of styles and it comes across well. ‘Galang’ was a really infectious single, and the rest of the album’s just as good.’

5. Bloc Party – Silent Alarm

2D: ‘I think they’re one of the best new bands to come out of England in a while. ‘So Here We Are’ was one of my favourite tracks of the year.’
