Liverpool trio The Wombats are back in black with This Modern Glitch, which drops April 26 on Bright Antenna. The “Jump Into The Fog” single from the new album was released earlier this year, featuring a slightly darker tone to The Wombats boisterous shenanigans the likes of “Kill The Director” and “Backfire At The Disco.”
With the smoke machine on high, Matthew Murphy (lead vocals, guitar, keyboard), Dan Haggis (drums, backing vocals), and Tord Øverland-Knudsen (bass guitar and backing vocals) perform “Jump Into The Fog” within a vintage hotel that’s seen better days. Creepy, Twin Peak-esque stories take place within each of the rooms and in the dank hallways while two chicks in black cocktail dresses and morning-after makeup fight on the stairs.
The Wombats have an online promotion microsite they call the WOMBATIZER, which enables you to enter any website URL to make it go Wombatty. Upon such participation kiddies, you can preview the album, “win a trip to Barcelona, find hidden surprises, Wombatize any website and much more with the one, the only WOMBATIZER!”
This Modern Glitch tour starts mid-April, blanketing Europe, hitting Australia, back to Europe, then three U.S. dates – May 31 at The Bowery in NYC, June 1 at the Troubadour in LA, and on June 3 at Popscene/Rickshaw Stop in SF – before the three Wombats head out again on the festival circuit.
