After signing to Barzuk records in late 2009 and making their mark at SXSW 2010, the euphoric and dreamscape musical duo from New York, Phantogram, continue to tour with new material from Eyelid Movies, the group’s recent full-length debut.
Recorded at Phantogram’s “homemade studio/practice space/think-tank/bat-cave” in Saratoga Springs, Josh Carter and Sarah Barthel have put together mood-altering music that delivers all the trip benefits without the nasty side affects.
“When I’m Small” (haven’t we all felt that at one time or another?) slithers with a saunter and a sway, moving from groove to grace within moments of the song. The staring-at-the-sea track, “Mouthful of Diamonds,” seems to tell a tale of deceit and defiance in the face of betrayal to, all to a subtle seagull beat. The track “Turn It Off” contradicts itself in title, as it lays down deep, chunky rhythms and sparkling high hats.
Logging their travels online, Sarah writes, “We are so excited for this tour not only because we are touring with one of the best bands in the U.S., but also because we are going to be driving in a 2010 Cadillac Escalade. Don’t believe me? Fine, but don’t be alarmed if you see us driving down Hollywood Boulevard blasting Lil’ Wayne. You won’t be hallucinating. It will be us.”
Yep. They’re rollin’ with the homies in an black Escalade. Not sure if spinners are included.
