Kishi Bashi performed at the Ogden Theatre Saturday, January 17, on the first date of Guster’s North American tour. The multi-instrumentalist/singer-songwriter performed his unique style of intricate and intense stringed-solos, layered and looped harmonies and beats, and nearly operatic indie pop with a slice of comedy and bright smiles at every turn.
“Who hasn’t seen Kishi Bashi before?”, he asked the audience. Kishi immediately laughed and shook his head, realizing he just talked about himself in the third person. “File that under ‘lame’.”
Belting out songs from his 2014 album, Lighght, he danced and encouraged the audience to join the jig for “The Ballad of Mr. Steak.,” enthralled ears with soaring vocals that went “to the sky” on “Philosophize In It! Chemicalize With It!”, and made the girls scream when “Manchester” popped up on the set list.
Kishi Bashi is always a joy to experience, better living and listening through his chemistry of dopamine delight, talent and laughter. Check him out at a town near you.
