Deconstructing The Beatles – Scott Freiman Breaks ‘Em Down

The jewel of any city, whether you’re in Cleveland, Omaha, New York, Portland(ia), or here in Denver, is the art house movie theater. It is where one can experience unique and tantalizing events that celebrate creativity and ingenuity without the need for 3D glasses or servings of oil-soaked popcorn that could feed a circus. Here in Denver that oasis is Denver Film Center ala the Denver Film Society (DFS), and this Thursday and Friday (April 12 and April 13) DFS presents music and Beatles fanatics with an opportunity to be schooled on the making of songwriting history. This weekend you can partake in “Deconstructing THE BEATLES.”

The teacher in this case is Scott Freiman, a composer and musician in his own right, is one who has spent a considerable amount of time researching and understanding all the intricate nuances of the making of Beatles albums – from the songwriting process and cover art, to studio recording history made by John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr.

“Any chance we get to take a look at the creative process and peel back that curtain, glimpse behind it and see how a work of art is created…is really glorious,” Freiman explains in his ‘Deconstructing’ video, “and that’s exactly what we’re going to do tonight.”

Thursday night Frieman delves into what is deemed to be one of “the most important rock & roll album ever made,” The Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. In this lecture he’ll pull out rare audio and video clips to complement the story behind the music, one you won’t experience on VH1.

Friday night it’s Looking Through A Glass Onion: Deconstructing The White Album, an LP from 1968 that still resonates with music lovers and music makers today, some 40+ years later. Here, Freiman will take us back to another pinnacle year for the Fab Four – when they were embracing new philosophical, religious, and hallucinogenic experiences, and when the infamous Yoko Ono came into the picture – and how it all impacted their songwriting process.
