As a self taught pianist and guitarist, Colin Meads moved out of the house right after high-school graduation, opting for something a bit different other than college. He took a gig writing TV jingles in downtown San Diego, and got his first place in the attic of a recording studio.
After recruiting a neighbor and a couple of high school mates, Meads, now 22, has seen his idea of a piano driven rock band realized “I always wanted to play piano in a band, but do it aggressively,” he says, “but I wanted to avoid all the piano rock clichés and all the power ballads.”
Citing influences such as Fugazi, At-The-Drive-In, and Hot Water Music usually means said band will fail to meet expectations, but it’s a pleasant surprise to hear the subtle hints of those bands in their piano tinged, dancey punk rock sound while still sounding fairly original.
Look for Pistolita to come to Denver soon, as they plan to support Saves The Day and Circa Survive on their current North American tour.
