Locke and the Chris Wilson Five turn out a full LP of super-analog, super funked-out, jazzy hip-hop from Spokane, Washington on their second release, Loose Ties.
The lyrical flow has the tightness and agility of Oliver Hart/Eyedea or Murs, laid over beats that are crisp and sweet; remarkably played with no electronic equipment (save for a classic funk organ accompaniment).
Locke and the band have been satisfying crowds up and down the west coast for years, and presumably will be taking this release all the way east. There is not doubt, listening to this tight, simply produced studio recording, the live show has got to kick ass.
If you are looking for a hip-hop show that doesn’t have a mosh pit in these strange musical days, you have found it with Locke and the Chris Wilson Five.
