The Black Lips Get Into the Game of Giving Back

The Black Lips

The Black Lips have been known for many things; crazy and lively rock shows, feeling free of clothing, er, and getting kicked out of a country. But now the four-piece is seeing to it that deaf children have a chance to hear and play music.

[UPDATE] Tying up their Chuck Taylors and hitting the court, The Black Lips are challenging other Atlanta-based musicians–Jim Jones, Shawty Lo, Pill, Of Montreal, OJ Da Juiceman, Jay Electronica, Donnis, Sean Price, and Jermaine Dupri–among others, at Converse’s “Band of Ballers” basketball tournament in Atlanta on Saturday, May 1st.

The Black Lips will donate all $5,000 they receive from the “Band of Ballers” tournament to the Auditory Verbal Centre Inc. (http://www.avchears.org). The non-profit organization is a “provider of Auditory-Verbal therapy, which teaches mild to profoundly deaf children how to hear and speak without the use of sign-language or lip reading,” along with providing rehabilitation for deaf children after having been outfitted with cochlear implants.

Just because The Black Lips are showing their soft side for the kids, that doesn’t equate to pansy-ism on the court. “When you play The Black Lips, you’re gonna hear two sounds: Swish! and Boom-sha-ka-la-kah!”

Stay tuned to the The Black Lips’ Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/theblacklips) page for ticket giveaways for the tournament.
