D.O.R.K. Gets Radio Airplay

D.O.R.K., the pop punk band out of Denver, has jumped over the huge hurdle of getting radio airplay. As most of us know, the state of commercial radio today is a focus on the mainstream, where the same damn songs from the same damn bands are played day after day after day. This leave many, or most, of the bands WE listen to out in the cold, with no radio exposure whatsever. D.O.R.K. announced this week that have begun to get radio airplay on KROQ, the major market alternative station in Los Angeles that has “launched” a number of bands, including Smash Mouth by the then DJ, Carson Daly.

Donavon Welsh, the band’s bass player, states that getting request for their music makes a big difference, “So send your requests to requests@kroq.com! Thank you!” Stations in more minor markets do look to the major market stations for direction on what to play, and as a result, other stations are taking KROQ’s lead and playing D.O.R.K. including WARQ in Columbia, SC, WFRD in Hanover, NH, and the local alternative station, KTCL (nick@area93.com) , KBPI (willie@kbpi.com), and college station in Ft. Collins, KCSU (www.kcsu.com). They’re also getting airplay on Waitt Radio station, which is syndicated in 6 states. “Please send your requests to these dj’s! The D.O.R.K. disease is spreading!” says Donavon. They play Sportsfield Roxx on Friday, February 6. They also have some upcoming all ages shows, so check out their web site at www.wearedork.com for their show updates or right here on Kaffeine Buzz. Read their Kaffeine Buzz interview here.

reno divorce hits the road and the recording studio in the spring

Reno Divorce is getting set to get on the road and expose their raucos brand of punk to the kids out west, heading out to Huntington Beach, L.A., and Vegas in April. Beside hitting the slots and the strip clubs, they’ll also be playing in the annual Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Festival. Although they’re not really in the rockabilly realm, Andrew Erich, their drummer, states they’ll be playing in the Punk/Psychobilly show. When they get back they’ll be heading into the studio to record their new album. They hope to get it out by summer, but realistically expect it to be out in the Fall.

They’ve put together 15 or so songs for their second full-length album,”a few of which probably won’t make the final cut for the album, but we’ll be sure to do SOMETHING with them,” says Andrew. “As a result, we will be slowing down the shows considerably, so if you want to see us before we hit the studio, you have a few more chances before we lock ourselves in the (new) practice space to do pre-production demos.” Also look for them in the 3rd Annual Joey Ramone B-Day Bash, which is put on by the Springs punk rockers, The Mansfields, which will take place in Denver May 17 at the Lion’s Lair.
