Temples made a big splash in the states last year at SXSW due to their live appearances featuring songs from the band’s debut, Sun Structures, on Fat Possum. Their wave of psychedelic magic hasn’t mellowed in the slightest, earning them the number one spot on Rough Trade’s albums of 2014.
The four-piece from the UK returns to these shores and comes to Denver this week to play once again at the Bluebird Theatre on Wednesday, May 27 with L.A.’s Fever the Ghost and Denver’s The Blue Rider.
Back in April Temples teamed with Fever the Ghost to release a spit 7” on Heavenly Recordings for Record Store Day, covering each other’s songs. Temples adds a bit of kaleidoscope eyes to “Calico,” and in turn, Fever the Ghost takes “Keep In The Dark” down a dank alley to tussle with the Droogs.
The Blue Rider released a new video for “Year of the Horse” earlier this month, a tripping mix of peyote-induced visions and a surfabilly ride of your life. If this is a literal glimpse of what’s to come from Blue Rider’s next full-length album later this summer, I’m psyched to hear what more they have in store for this Wednesday’s show.
