“This is my church. This is where I heal my hurts.” Faithless nailed it on the head when they coined this lyric. It’s a belief many of us take to heart when we’re on that dance floor, feeling the music wash over us like flowing baptismal water, cleaning way the debris of the day. This ethos is also quite fitting for Tchami. When donned in his clerical collar, the Parisian DJ and producer is known to lead his congregation of dancers to the promised land of house-bass’d bliss.
Having perked up many people’s ears last year with his remix of Janet Jackson’s “Go Deep,” and his own productions “Untrue” and “Shot Caller,” 2015 has been all about Tchami kicking it up several notches with original music and the current #AfterLifeTour.
Crafted with disco club piano licks and tinges of Giorgio Moroder, “Move Your Body (Future House)” challenges you to resist the desire to shake it, but you can’t if you’ve got a pulse. “Missing You” featuring AC Slater and Kaleem is flowing along eloquently enough, but then it drops into a dirty, dark and delicious place that you don’t want to escape from. “After Life,” the inspiration for the current tour, hooks you ‘round the gills with a few seconds of BBD “Poison” percussion, then takes off with deep house keyboards bouncing through your head.
