Warner Bros Pictures Ready Player One Experience with VIVE VR
One of most highly-anticipated sci-fi cinematic adventures of this year is “Ready Player One,” another Spielberg epic slated for release on March 29. As timing would have it, Warner Bros. Pictures (WBP) has quite a treat in store for the SXSW kids. Given the film’s virtual reality centered storyline, it also makes sense that their “Ready Player One Experience” is fueled by a VR partner, and they’ve gone with HTC VIVE.
Taking place at Brazos Hall (204 E 4th St, Austin, TX 78701) from March 9-11 (see the times below), the building’s exterior will be transformed into the Stacks, the trailer park where Wade Watts and other characters from 2045 live their tailer-park existence. After getting your RFID wristband, you’ll enter the Experience through Watts’ van with the next steps taking you into the OASIS.
A Hot Topic “Ready Player One Pop-Up Shop” will give guests an opportunity to nab film merch, have a run at creating your own digital identity via a VIVE VR avatar, sip themed cocktails in the 2045 nightclub, partake in 80’s trivia happy hours or grooving to a WaveVR set by the star of the movie playing Watts, Tye Sheridan. Head up to the second floor Stacks to play classic arcade games you know and love with a modern VR twist and visual inspiration from the film.
On Sunday, March 11 WBP will host a live stream show, “Ready Player One LIVE at SXSW,” on https://www.twitch.tv/twitch and www.imdb.com/readyplayerone, with Aisha Tyler and Alex Correa leading the interviews with Sheridan and other cast from the film including Olivia Cooke, Lena Waithe, Win Morisaki, Philip Zhao and Ben Mendelsohn, plus screenwriter Zak Penn and author/screenwriter/co-producer Ernest Cline. Cline is speaking separately at the convention center as part of the conference on March 12, 12:30pm. Atom Tickets will also be on site to enable fans to buy advance tickets to the film on Atom.
