Two years ago, Dominic Maker and Kai Campos of London’s Mount Kimbie were playing a festival in Croatia with frolicking people dancing on a yacht, having released their debut full-length Crooks & Lovers a year earlier. They also had time to play football twice a week while honing the soundscapes of their electronic act.
Now in 2013, they rarely have time for football, being on the heels of their second release Cold Spring Fault Less Youth, which was released this past Spring on Warp Records, and touring like mad.
Fans at London’s Field Day Festival, held on one of the sunnier days in the somewhat wintery month of May, were able to bop about to these new tracks right before the album hit the shelves and iTunes. CSFLY carries forward Mount Kimbie’s own tradition of experimental samples that don’t veer too far off the danceable grade, while also making each song interesting and unique enough to steer clear from the over-replicated EDM menotany.
The duo seem to be in a constant state of creativity (which is probably the reason they don’t see the football green very often), fine-tuning existing songs and crafting new ones during their live sets, and not just when they’re in the studio.
Mount Kimbie’s latest creative jaunt brings them to the States, starting off on the west coast in September and to Denver’s Larimer Lounge tomorrow night, Thursday, October 3, performing with JONWAYNE and D33J. They go on to hit these other U.S. cities before they play the Pitchfork Festival in Paris and venture on a UK tour:

One of the fan facts Kai Campos revealed during their Last.fm interview at Field Day, “We spent a lot of time recording a lot of the sounds we use on the album with Andy Ramsey who used to be the drummer for Stereolab.” Use that one with your friends to make you look like you’re super in-the-know.
