Carl Barât and The Jackals – UK Tour and SXSW Music 2015

The big news of 2014 related to Carl Barât has been the Libertines reunion, the band’s raucous show in Hyde Park at the British Summertime Festival, three sold-out nights at London’s Alexandra Palace, and a new Libertines album announced for 2015. But that’s not all folks. Barât’s new band The Jackals, comprised of unknown members Barât discovered through an online search, have their own big plans for next year, including his return to Austin for SXSW 2015.

Barât’s been doing his own thing for a while, including his band Dirty Pretty Things that debuted to the American audience at SXSW in 2006. It was a messy, yet fantastic spectacle of a show, but was disappointedly cut short as the band exceeded their time on the Parish stage.

That was then, this is now. Getting a listen to the first single by Carl Barât and The Jackals, “Glory Days,” he continues to solidify his place in making music that justifies why so many people go crazy, in a literal and metaphorical sense, for songs that go straight to anthem status. The epitome of the very skeletal structure of rock and roll, “Glory Days” invites you to learn every note and word by heart in order to sing along with your friends in utter glee, with beer swilling and sweat spilling.

The Jackals debut album is due out early in 2015 on Grand Jury (US) and Cooking Vinyl (UK), with Barât and the boys playing a short UK November tour (see you at the Coventry show) to unveil the new music and as a warm up for stateside shenanigans. Fingers crossed, their slots for SXSW 2015 will be full sets this time.
