Mission
Kaffeine Buzz was launched in 2002 to fill a gap in news and features about the local music scene in Colorado. Over the years, local coverage expanded to feature musical acts from across the country and internationally, along with film reviews, interviews with directors and artists, music festivals and conferences, and the convergence of technology, art, and culture.
Twenty years later, after a hiatus during these years of pandemic that’s become our endemic way of living, Kaffeine Buzz has relaunched with yet another redesign and an evolved mission: to feature the intersection between social justice & human rights and entertainment & culture.
This intersection has existed for sometime, going back to the days of “Strange Fruit” and “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner” or “Fight the Power” and “Consolidated,” further back to “The Third of May” by Francisco Goya and forward again to Jean-Michel Basquiat’s “Riding with Death.”
After the Black Lives Matter reckoning that began 10 years ago with the murder of a child, Trayvon Martin, and was amplified by a rocket sent around the world after the murder of George Floyd, social justice has become even more interwoven into the fabric of film, television, literature, art, and so many forms of creativity.
Kaffeine Buzz aims to shine a bright light on all those creations and their creators, with an emphasis on people of color. As a proud Chicana who is on her own journey of discovery of her Mexican culture while personally involved in reformative justice, this intersection is at the heart of my editorial soul.
