The Fully Down – Don’t Get Lost in the Movement

Somewhere between the worlds of pop punk and hardcore resides The Fully Down. Armed with a three-guitar attack, this Ottawa, Ontario six-piece, unleashes their melodic and intense brand of punk rock on their debut release from Fearless Records entitled, Don’t get lost in the movement.

After extensive touring for their self-produced EP, and an energetic live show it didn’t take long for the industry to notice. Alternative Press selected the band as the winners of their Vans Warped Tour contest in 2004, giving them the chance to play on the Canadian and Northeastern U.S. legs of the tour.

You can see why the band has enjoyed that type of success the last two years, but it’s also exactly why they fail to stand out. Although there are some great guitar leads (with three of them, I would hope so), and clever progressions, there’s really nothing here to distinguish them from the seemingly infinite amount of young, Castro hat-wearing, attractive, male rock bands out there. From the label that helped launch the careers of Strung Out, At-the-drive-in, BigWig, and Brazil, I may have been guilty of expecting too much.
