South of France – 3:30pm – Main Stage (Also 1pm, July 27, Hi-Dive)
Always a favorite at UMS and an act that has been played on The Kaffeine Buzz Show numerous times, South of France always garners a smile and dance-along at every show I’ve attended. I expect this one to be the same. According to Kelly Lueke from the band, they are working on new material, which you lucky dogs will get a chance to hear this weekend.
StaG – 4pm – Hi-Dive (Same time, 4pm, July 27 at Hi-Dive)
We’ll forgive this Denver indie band for bailing on our city and moving to Lost Angeles (wink, wink). It does seem to the suit StaG, as the carefree melodies and lovely orchestration of the latest album, Live Like Strings, are revealed as evidence. Catch them twice at Hi-Dive on both Saturday and Sunday.

Brothertiger – 5pm – Hi-Dive
Had the chance to see Brothertiger last year at UMS and was highly impressed by this solo dance act, capturing the full attention of a mostly inebriated crowd at Blue Ice. With a big smile and tons of juicy beats, he sang his heart out and filled the room with a joyous atmosphere. He returns to UMS with new material off of Future Splendors, released earlier this year on Mush Records.
Gardens and Villa – 5:30pm – Main Stage
Secretly Canadian gets behind yet another gem of a band, Gardens and Villa, aptly named for their breezy and light-hearted indie pop, perfect for smoothing out a rough day or getting one in the mood to hit an airy rooftop as the sun sets, surrounded by good friends and cold beverages.
A Shoreline Dream – 7pm – Irish Rover
This dreamscape outfit has been one of the longest-running Denver acts I’ve known, and makes me very happy. Not only are the players all great musicians and highly creative, they’re good people. Lead singer and songwriter, Ryan Policky, was also responsible for bringing Chapterhouse to San Francisco, which gets super duper bonus points in my book.
Baths – 7:30pm – Main Stage
While the whole EDM scene has seen the dumbing down of electronic music for the masses, Baths redeems this genre with eclectic and layered song signatures, intricate but free flowing, highly unique yet somehow familiar. His second album Obsidian is a must-have and his act at UMS is a must-see.
Real Estate – 8:30pm – Main Stage
I’m not one for road trips, given my childhood summers spent in the back seat of a station wagon with my family, dealing with motion sickness, but taking in Real Estate’s latest album, Atlas, I can’t help but feel the breeze of the summer, gliding down the highway with the windows down. But this time, I would trade the station wagon for a Mustang convertible, and whatever interstate that goes through Arkansas for PCH.
