At the first day of SXSW Interactive 2010 interactive included mimosas at the Brian Solis Engage panel, cookies at Content Strategy panel, and the annual trek to the Pastries & Pasties party. And of course, a bit of dancing was involved.
(3/13/2010) In years past, BBC and their 6 Music crew have created quite a fanfare at SXSW. I expect the belts were tight in 2010, since the only hide or hair of BBC was the Digital Planet people who arrived to serve us up with a delightful dish of geek, comedy and witty banter; and an Interactive game to entertain the audience.
(3/12/2010) After leaving the last SXSWi Content Strategy session where the presenter passed out chocolate chip cookies, I couldn’t believe my eyes upon entering the large ballroom for Brian Solis’ session, "How Your Brand Can Succeed in the New Web." There on a table were rows and rows of inviting, orange, bubbling mimosas.
Many thought it an odd choice to have the Rhymesayers emissary, Brother Ali, open up a show for, Bassnectar, one of the most successful DJ/Musicians currently touring today. However, after his opening salvo and subsequent hour long set, Ali quieted all the naysayers and quite possibly won a few new fans along the way.
It was the first night of a two-week tour for the Lawrence, KS foursome, Rooftop Vigilantes; a Tuesday night, where the streets were pretty barren of any signs of life given the cold temp outside. But it was toasty inside the Hi Dive where the group was setting up.
I’ve always experienced Cage in a massive setting; at the Definitive Jux showcase at SXSW or a large venue gig for Rock the Bells. Those memories are night and day to his solo performance at the Marquis Theater on Thursday, June 24. And I have to say, I prefer the night.
For every band I saw in Austin at South By Southwest 2010, I missed 100, at least. That is a really depressing thought until I take a minute and think about who I did see, with whom, and under what circumstances.
The only real problem with the trip isn’t really a problem, but more of an embarrassment of riches. I know so many people in Austin, most of whom are really connected, so a trip there always involves me completely releasing the reigns, something i always find difficult to do.

Day 2 of SXSW Music 2010 started off with a walk down Congress during a Boycott-Israel protest, a bit of Hot Dog Skeleton at the Midwasteland takeover; the Sounds of Spain showcase featuring Nudozurdo, Tom Cary; Superchunk and Let's Wrestle at Cedar Street, A Classic Education from Italy, and back to Cedar for Lou Barlow. And then about 5 minutes of Riverboat Gamblers.
