[Mezzanine, San Francisco - Friday, October 21, 2011]Let’s get to brass tacks. I’m busy. I’m leaving for Chicago in six hours, and before I leave I have to give you a reason to go out on a Tuesday night in Denver for the Check Yo' Ponytail Tour, since all I have to look forward to is a 4-hour return trip to San Francisco. Oh, woe is me.
Detroit- and Chicago-based rap duo, The Cool Kids descended on Oakland “The Town” California this weekend to unveil the live rendition of their recently released When Fish Ride Bicycles, the latest installment of the Kids’ professed love for cars, bikes, women, a particular herb, breakfast cereal and all things comfort.
Foster the People is on a roll. After some smashing gigs at SXSW the Los Angeles group, expanding from a three-piece to 5-piece for this tour, are selling out venues all along the way to Coachella in April.
Gary Numan is just one of a number of artists I've finally been able to see live after being a fan for decades. His performance at the Gothic Theatre last night, and that of his band, clearly exceeded any expectations the crowd, and then some.
It's Halloween and the boys in Two Door Cinema Club honor the holiday by donning posh costumes for one of the most amazing performances, definitely holding a solid place in my top 10 favorite shows in 2010.
(3/12/2010) If anyone walks and talks their brand, it’s Darren Rowse of ProBlogger.com. This man has made money blogging…about blogging. When the second edition of his book (and the title for this session) co-written with Chris Garrett, “Secrets for Blogging Your Way to a Six-Figure Income,” first came out in 2008 it garnered quite a lot of attention.
(3/12/2010) Margot Bloomstein led her "Content Strategy: What’s in it for You?" session on this first day of SXSWi 2010 with a creative, tasty metaphor, using homemade cookies, not carrots, as bait for the audience. The woman knows how to make a first impression.

The last day of SXSW 2010 for me. Started with the British Embassy Brunch, featuring The Crookes and Broadcast 2000, but no coffee. Then over to see Of Verona, the Filter Party for Athlete and The Constellations, ending with Alvarez Kings, P.K. 14, and two other bands I wasn't into, at all. Finally time to detox and get some sleep. Can't wait for next year!

What day is it? Got our asses out of bed early to to get in line in the AM for the SXXpress pass...allowing us to cut in line for the Muse show. A very smooth process - kudos to the SXSW staff for handling things so smoothyly. Other acts we saw included Metric, along with massive performances from Dead Sexy and Mayer Hawthorne. Oh, and I met Martin Atkins in the elevator. It was a good day.

A packed St. Patty's Day, complete with a visit to Levi's Fader Fort and We Were Promised Jetpacks (although we left empty handed), Everything Everything; Band of Skulls at British Embassy, Princeton at Wave Rooftop, and Miike Snow at Galaxy.
