Playing nearly in the dark, from the get go the show was off and running at 100mph, featuring many of The Cribs new tracks from their sixth album, For All My Sisters. The reaction to “An Ivory Hand,” “Burning For No One,” “Pink Snow,” and especially, “Finally Free” proved to resonate just as strongly as old favorites “Mens Needs” and “Hey Scenesters!”
Despite feet getting crushed and elbows to the head numerous times (one guy kept apologizing for falling into me…oh sweetie, this wasn’t my first rodeo…but I appreciated the thought), it was so worth it. That level of energy just had to come from the crowd as a result of what we were all experiencing from the four people stage.
Appearing on Steve Lamcq’s Roundtable on BBC 6 Music earlier today, Gary chatted about their time in the U.S., including some dates in New York prior to SXSW and this particular gig at The Parish, “It was fun, it was intense, the one you were at,” he said to Steve, “I really enjoyed that one.” No shit, so did we. Hopefully that was obvious.
The Jarman brothers - Gary on bass, vocals, Ryan on guitar, vocals, and Ross on drums - along with Michael Cummings who dives in for guitar, keyboard and bass for their U.S. gigs, did things up right. With yet another solid album, For All My Sisters, in the pocket The Cribs aren’t taking any time to rest post-SXSW, and Greg made note of his exhaustion during his BBC 6 Music stop.
Tonight The Cribs start again with a few UK dates prior to returning to the states for one-off gigs and both weekends of Coachella, and then back to the UK and Europe for festival season.
