Having recently experienced Unknown Mortal Orchestra's recent set at Bonnarro from afar, it was exciting to be more up close and personal once again, this time in the lovely intimate Bluebird Theatre. It was a packed out, sold out show, and frontman Ruban Nielson was immensely grateful, thanking Denver for making it so.

Early on in the show, longtime drummer Riley Geare was in fine form, as usual, taking the helm for his drum solo escapade. Nielson, bassist Jake Portrait, and keyboardist Quincy Mcrary took a temporary backseat for this. Later, UMO's newest member Mcrary, took his turn in the spotlight, going into an almost ragtime jaunt as he tinkled the ivories.

Portrait, who has also been with UMO for some time, is a producer in his own right, lending his creative juices to Dandy Warhols, Blouse and Denver's Gauntlet Hair, in addition to Nielson's previous band, Mint Chicks. Geare is an engineer, having joined UMO in 2013, in time for the now famous SXSW takeover, and helped Nielson break the solo writing mold by contributing to the latest album, Multi-Love.

One of the advantages to playing in a venue as opposed to a festival where there's a large amount of real estate between the band and the crowd, is the ability for band members to dive in and be amoung the people, which Nielson was more than happy to do. Needless to say, fans from the front to the back of the room, ate it up, and didn't want to let the boys go up until the very last song.
