Underground Music Showcase (UMS) – Picks for Day 4 – July 27, 2014

By now you may think you can’t go on, especially if you’ve attended every day of the Underground Music Showcase (UMS) thus far. But you need to soldier on, ’cause there’s another full day of music and festivities to be had and conquered. So dust off the beers and cocktails from last night, jump in a cold shower, grab and hearty breakfast from one of the many spots around Denver (Sputnik’s hangover special is an obvious choice), get all hopped up on caffeine and get going.

If you missed any of the other band picks offered in Day 1, Day 2, or Day 3, there are other chances to see these acts today, including:

South of France, 1pm at Hi-Dive
Inner Oceans, 4pm at Skylark
StaG, 4pm at Hi-Dive
Brothertiger, 9pm at Hi-Dive

In fact, you could spend the whole evening at Hi-Dive and take in some of the best indie dance and psychedelic music UMS has to offer, back-to-back.

Speaking of which…

Prism Waves – 5pm – Hi-Dive

When you first dive into Prism Waves’ music, it’s easy to visualize the Denver four-piece debuting at the Icelandic Airwaves festival, given their surreal symphonic nature. That was two years ago, and thus far the band – Zale Tynan, Jordan Wyatt Hubner, James Barone, Ryan Sniegowsky -has released two E.P.s, ‘Courage’ and ‘White Fog,’ played even more festivals, including SXSW. You’ve got two chances to see them today, first at 50 West First Street for a “free day party, free drinks!” at 3:30pm, and then a bit later at Hi-Dive at 5pm.

The UMS Massive DJ Takeover – 6pm – 2am – Sputnik

More Sunday Funday times are to be had tonight at Sputnik tonight, with Shannon at the help of this dance party ship. Black Amex just released a new track this past week, “Right Here With Me” on the With A Twist Vol. 1 compilation. This beauty is more than a floorfiller, it’s a booth filler, dance on the table top and bar track. Bam!

Keepers & Cutlass
Bollywood Life
Fancy Matthew
Black Amex
Shannon von Kelly

If rock is more your thang, don’t worry you’re pretty little tight-jeaned ass, there’s plenty of bands to float your boat.

In The Whale – 2pm – Hi-Dive

Wire Faces – 6pm – 3 Kings Tavern

The Men – 6:30pm – Main Stage

Unknown Mortal Orrchestra – 7:30pm – Main Stage

If Denver pulls off one of its infamous puffy cloud displays as the sun starts to set, it will be the perfect backdrop to Unknown Mortal Orchestra’s hazy days of summer indie rock ballads. Their 2013 release II received huge accolades worldwide, and the band have seemed to be touring non-stop ever since.
